Initially training in opera, she moved to jazz, blues and contemporary music after finding the styles suited her expansive vocal range. 2006 saw her audition for the third series of The X Factor with 'Over the Rainbow', stunning the judges with her voice and impressing the public so much she became their winner in December. Her winner's single 'A Moment Like This' broke records after it was downloaded more than 50,000 times in 30 minutes. Debut album Spirit went straight to number one on both the UK and US charts, with lead single 'Bleeding Love' spending 7 weeks at the top spot. Second album offering Echo saw similar success and included the theme song to science fiction film Avatar. 'I See You' was nominated for Best Original Song at the 67th Golden Globe Awards. After completing the Labyrinth tour she began working on third album Glassheart which was eventually released in late 2012 and went in a more dance orientated direction. After leaving Syco music in 2013 she signed with Island Records UK and began working on her fifth studio album. I Am was released in September, followed by an announcement that the singer will be setting out on a UK wide tour in February 2016.
